यूनिफार्म सिविल कोड अर्थात् समान नागरिक संहिता पर आजकल पूरे देश में चर्चा चल रही है। यूनिफार्म सिविल कोड विषय पर चर्चा संविधान निर्माण के समय से ही चल रही है। इसमें कोई दो राय नहीं है कि किसी भी राष्ट्र में यूनिफार्म सिविल कोड अथवा कॉमन सिविल कोड अथवा नैशनल सिविल कोड नहीं होना चाहिए या इसे किसी भी नाम से जाना जाए। इस चर्चा में मुख्य तत्व यह है कि भारत जैसे देश में यूनिफार्म सिविल कोड केन्द्र बिन्दू क्या होना चाहिए? 21वीं सदी में यूनिफार्म सिविल कोड का आधार महिलाओं के अधिकार, संवैधानिक नैतिकता, मानव अधिकारी, सेक्यूलरिज्म, जेण्डर समानता आदि मूल्यों और सिद्धांतों को सर्वोपरि रखकर चर्चा करनी होगी। परन्तु धर्म ग्रन्थों के अनुसार धार्मिक मान्यताओं, आस्थाओं को भी केन्द्र में रखा जाएगा। अतः भारत में यूनिफार्म सिविल कोड लागू करने के लिए मौलिक चिंतन की आवश्यकता है। भारत में हिन्दू समुदाय के लिए हिन्दू कोड के तहत सभी हिन्दुओं पर यह लागू होता है। गणतंत्र भारत में संसद और न्यायपालिका के कारण हिन्दू समुदाय की महिलाओं को पुरूष के बराबर हक एवं बिना भेदभाव के सिविल कोड जैसे विवाह, तलाक, बच्चा गोद लेना...

  It  is reported that   Rajya Sabha  MP from Rajasthan Kirori Lal Meena  is scheduled to introduce the private members' bills on  uniform civil code  in the very first week of the Parliament session which is starting from July 19. Uniform Civil Code forms the base of any secular state.
